AW18 BELT PACKS

The brief was to update Lowe Alpine’s hiking belt pack range with a new twin bottle style, to be called the ‘Nijmegen’. At the same time, the brief was to stay true the previous styles, which were still popular. For this project James was very ‘hands on’ through the prototyping and development phases. This included iterating design features including pockets, compression and linings to achieve a complex product which would nevertheless feel familiar to the end user. It proved really difficult to access existing users of this product. So a lot of fun was had getting into the mindset of a 65 year old man with white socks and sandals and a penchant for bird watching. In the end we finished with a really clean design which resonated with the previous range. Improved functionality was achieved through novel combinations of compression and foam panels.
